This book makes learning about minerals just as much fun as collecting them. Readers encounter a breathtaking terrain covering rock types and identification, rock and fossil formation, plate tectonics, the rock cycle, and much more. Thanks to dynamic descriptions, diagrams, and photos, the reader’s natural curiosity is firmly grounded in rock-solid information.

Behind the Book

“When I was a kid, I loved collecting rocks at an old lead mine near my parents’ house. In third grade, I entered my rock collection in the school science fair and won second prize. So when my editor asked me to write this book, I was thrilled. It gave me a chance to delve deeper into the basics of earth science. Now I think about the geologic history of areas whenever I travel.”
