This book makes learning about rocks just as much fun as collecting them. Readers encounter a breathtaking terrain covering mineral composition and identification, how we use minerals, and record-setting mineral finds. Thanks to dynamic descriptions, diagrams, and photos, the reader’s natural curiosity is firmly grounded in rock-solid information.

Behind the Book

“When I was a kid, I loved collecting rocks at an old lead mine near my parents’ house. In third grade, I entered my rock collection in the school science fair and won second prize. So when my editor asked me to write this book, I was thrilled. It gave me a chance to delve deeper into the basics of earth science. Now I think about the geologic history of areas whenever I travel.”
