Behind the Book

“I’ve writ­ten sev­er­al books about but­ter­flies, but I was excit­ed to cre­ate a high­ly inter­ac­tive book for very young readers.

“I began by pulling out all the monarch pho­tos and note­book entries I’ve com­piled over the years and review­ing them. I tried to put myself in the shoes of a 3 or 4 year old child as I thought about a sim­ple, tac­tile way to share the won­ders of metamorphosis.

“I dis­cussed my ideas with the edi­tors and design­ers at Ster­ling Pub­lish­ing, and by work­ing togeth­er, we came up with a cool design and for­mat that I think kids will real­ly love.”
